About the Event
Note: Everyone is welcome; if you're generally interested in AI and curious about where things are headed plus risks, do pop by for a chatter.
We used to watch this on screen. Now we're living it.
For decades, science fiction gave us a safe distance from artificial intelligence, letting us explore its promises and dangers without ever having to face them. That distance is gone. The machines that write, reason, negotiate, and act on our behalf are no longer confined to scripts and speculative fiction; they're showing up in product roadmaps, policy debates, and daily headlines.
Science fiction always understood one thing, even when it got the details wrong. The technology was never the whole story; the choices around it were. Utopia and dystopia in these stories rarely hinge on how powerful the AI is. They hinge on who's steering it, what values it's built on, and whether anyone was paying attention before it was too late.
That's the real question underneath the futuristic set dressing: are we building toward a future we'd actually want to live in, and what does "responsible" have to do with getting there?
